Killer Tips for Winning Friends and Influencing People on Twitter from Chris Suspect on Vimeo.

This short documentary was put together by four people who met on Twitter and set up a sailing tweet up in the Chesapeake Bay. While you will learn how Twitter can bring people together for a great time, you’ll also learn some killer tips on how to use the site effectively. Each of us in the film have different motivations and strategies for the site, but in the end you’ll learn one trick that’s a surefire show stopper.

The concept for the film was created at breakfast before the sail. We shot it with one camera, each of us taking turns.

Activist, grandfather, hero…Ed Wiley’s been a busy guy. Most recently he’s one of the main subjects of “On Coal River” a film by Francine Cavanaugh and Adams Wood. His quest for a safe school for the children of Coal River, West Virginia has taken him many places, including the Silverdocs film festival where we met with him on the sidewalk. He shares his trials, hopes and what you can do to help the people of Coal River and all those affected by mountain top removal.This was shot with an iPhone 3GS.

Reverend Billy Introduces “On Coal River”

With a song, Reverend Billy and his First Church of Stop Shopping choir introduced the film “On Coal River”. Their gospel style was fitting for the film and I, as a West Virginian, truly appreciated their support of this film and this cause. As we say at karaoke, “These kids got pipes.” This was shot on the iPhone 3GS.

I caught a little of the sideshow/hand shaking action after Albert Maysles spoke at the American Art Museum after a screening of two of his Christo films, “The Valley Curtain” and “Christo In Paris”. He touches, with humor, on the kind of projects that are (or aren’t) being funded today, some of his own new projects, and graciously absorbs adoration from folks that came all the way from Japan to see and speak with him.

Popculture Definitions of Documentary and Independent Film

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed two pop-culture references to indie (or independent, but we’ll get into that with a little help from Strongbad in a few) film and documentary film in the last week. The first one I saw on the NBC show Community recently where one of the characters decides he wants to follow his dreams and take a film class – despite the urging of his father to get a business degree and take over the family business. “Documentary film…they’re like real movies, but with ugly people.”

Ok, so that’s a pretty good take on docs. What about independent film? Ok, Strongbad. You’ve got this one? I truly have forgotten how funny Homestar Runner is. It’s a pretty brilliant shakedown of independent films that not only makes fun of the formula for such a film, but also those that make them (from the no-low budget sad sack, to the son-of-a-producer-let’s-make-a-million-dollar-film-but-make-sure-it-looks-like-we-made-it-on-a-couple-hundred-thousand-type).
