…go together like Inky, Blinky and Pinky (oh yeah, and Clyde) or so I found out this weekend at Eastern Market on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Local artist Yang Ku has a variety of geeky accessories available from Scrabble jewelry for those gung-ho for the grammatical to Thundercats and Voltron cuff links for the 80′s nostalgia collector. The items that caught my eye, however, were these Star Wars Lego cuff links. From Darth Vader to young Anakin these cuff links are perfect for any collector. Yang Ku currently resides in Baltimore, MD but makes the trip for the open air farmer’s market most weekends, weather allowing. You can check out the rest of her works on the web at Yang Ku Designs. In the mean time, feast your eyes on these…

Alas! I’ve ventured into the land of pickling, and furthermore documenting the process. For months now I’ve been purchasing pickles from the “pickle man” at Eastern Market, and on the same weekend that I decided to DIY some beer, I decided to DIY some pickles as well. Learn to make pickles in 5 simple steps and about $20 worth of ingredients. It’s a blast, I assure you. p.s. I’ve continued to play with iMovie 09 to expedite my video making process so forgive the gratuitous ‘theme’ transitions. They’re so much fun! A huge thanks to Judy Buttons for the camera work on the project!

I was thinking the other day that it would be great if I had some sort of small lighting device that I could use with my Casio Exilim for those bar-back-room interviews I like doing so much. You’ve seen them – great interview, decent audio – but man the lighting is begging for improvement. What do you expect from a tiny point and shoot. Apparently a lot. Nobody likes a grainy interview. So I thought about it, and requirements are as follows.

Hands Free

Small

Runs on rechargable batteries

Doesn’t eat those batteries quickly

Bright

Cheap

Sounds simple enough, right? Well apparently it is. I found this cool little how-to on how to build your own under-camera light for somewhere around $2. That I can spare. As to the hands free – it screws onto the mount on the bottom of the camera. I’ll let you know how it goes as this sounds like a great weekend project. Let me know if you end up building one too!

Cheers!
