Ok, so we all love a good county fair right? This past weekend some friends and I made the trek out of the big city and hit up the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair in Gaithersburg, MD. It was by far the largest county fair I’ve ever been to. From a variety of live stock contests and makeshift petting barns, to folk craft and arts, a massive carnival complete with freak show, and a demolition derby - this fair had it all. Just wanted to bring you a hint of what it was like - hope you enjoy! Should you be daring enough to watch the entire thing (there are wicked wicked farm animal noises for the last half of the video - they were hungry) - there’s a special feature at the end for you animal lovers.

What Great Fun… Let’s do it Again Next Year!
We went to the Montgomery Agricultural Fair and watched the bee keeper demonstration first thing. I asked a couple questions and learned that honey doesn’t need to be pasteurized and that honey bees know which hive they belong to primarily by smell (bees have noses… That’s a head scratcher!). It was most interesting to watch the beekeeper grab a handful of bees and place them in front of one of the two hives without getting stung! Well, maybe once! Next, we walked around the Fair looking at rabbits, chickens and goats and stuff, listened to country music (“All my exes live in Texas that’s why I live in Tennessee…”). We observed the beautiful black bulls at the cattle auction. Now I know why hamburger is so expensive. My friend does a great imitation of the yell that the barker makes when someone enters a bid, “EEEEYEAAAAH”! Boy did he get off on that! It was a hoot… literally. Walked around and and found ourselves spending one dollar a piece to see an enormous horse that was “alive!”, “alive!”, “alive!”, the barker said. Phew, we won’t need to do THAT again! We walked around some more; saw some GIANT stuffed animals along the way. Hey, “how will they get those things home?” “Will they have to buy them a separate Metro Card? or what??”
I wasn’t particularly hungry but those hotdogs smelled particularly good! Now, what makes people pay good money to get on amusement park rides that shake off their eyeglasses, cell phones, and $$$ on to the ground below? Is it the music, the sounds, the brightly colored lights? That never ceases to amaze me! Well, I want to get on one of those rides next year!! Ha, ha!!! My friend played “spin the wheel”, I laughed hysterically as I was both surprised and shocked to see an actual mouse that was released from under a lid to select the winning number! Hmmmm, nobody won on that spin…Was it rigged, I thought? Only the mouse knows for sure!! Let’s lick our wounds and go home.
Ummmm, do YOU remember where we parked the car? “Were we directed to go left or right when we entered the Fairgrounds?” “Hell, what difference does it make,” I thought. After all, THOUSANDS of cars came in here to park long after we arrived. “The parking lot sure looks different at night.” Okay, so we spent what seemed like a good 25 to 30 minutes looking for the car in that HUGE 1 ½ mile (acre?) parking lot! We searched parallel style, up, down, back and forth and through out most of the parking lanes. Geesh, how many white cars can there be!Hey look, other people were searching for their cars too! Ha, ha, ha!! Our situation was funny but we weren’t laughing at the time! I was never so glad to finally see that white car.
it was right by the huge, GIGANTIC American flag and facing an enormous fence!! How could we miss remembering that? I was also a bit grateful that we weren’t drinking alcohol that night. We may have STILL been there looking for that car! My friend said that he USUALLY keeps track of where he parks especially at the Fair. He uses some sort of strange algorithm that he follows for remembering where to park… but admittedly he didn’t use it this time… I wonder why? What great FUN! Let’s do it again next year!!
