The Scoble Dance

December 23rd, 2007 · 1 Comment · Vlog

Because it needs to be saved for all times – my first full conversation on Seesmic ended somewhere around when this happened. Not because this happened – because honestly – this was hilarious and awesome – and it’s gonna’ catch on. It’s “The Scoble”. So what’s so cool about this? Why is it funny?

Because to someone like me who hasn’t been in “it” since the beginning, seeing someone who is/has – that is a part of what a lot of us consider to be the “upper echelon” of blogging – being human and engaging in a conversation that WE TOO are engaged in (which is – I guess – what “social” media is all about), makes success in blogging seem not entirely unreachable.

Jim Long of Verge New Media is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. He starts in his about section of his site with, “I started Verge New Media because I believe we are living in an era of unprecedented opportunity…” And he’s done just that – he’s seized the opportunity. I remember reading his posts on the DC Media Makers blog when he was still pretty fresh into all of this; and where is he now? He’s done so much and come so far in such a short amount of time. He’s respected, he’s putting out great content, and he remains an interesting and powerful force for social media, and people like him – and not just because he works for big media. I work for big media too, but I’m not putting myself out there the way he is (yet). I haven’t dedicated myself to it the way he has – and I respect that a lot. Jim Long is a perfect example of what all of us could do to become a media force to be reckoned with. He’s doing what he loves – he’s a story teller by profession and passion.

So the question remains what stories am I going to tell? What is my passion of passions? That has yet to be found out…until then…this is my story and my passion is learning. Maybe I just answered my own question.

Happy Holidays!
